About us:

The Whatcom Wind Ensemble was formed in April 2008 when a group of wind players felt the need for a high quality community wind ensemble. The ensemble members include but are not limited to community members, music educators, university and high school students.

This ensemble is dedicated to the public performance of wind literature, and offers several community concerts each year. The ensemble’s regular season includes a ‘Concert in the Park’ and indoor concerts.  Past guests include trombonist Aaron Wilson, saxophonist Mark Kelly and conductors Chris Thomas, Zach Smith, Matt Cole, Vanessa Katz, and Jarid Norman.  Members of the ensemble audition for their seat each fall.

To further community outreach, the Whatcom Wind Ensemble sponsors a summer symphonic series, which is a non-audition group. This massive symphonic band performs large-scale works and was formed under the belief that anyone can be involved with music.

The WWE rehearses at Western Washington University and is currently under the direction of Brad Hendry and Jacob Scherr.
